On 8 March, Dr Armin Eckermann, chairman of the German-Maltese Business Council of the Maltese Chamber of Commerce, Enterprise and Industry, commenced the Networking Event, which was organized in cooperation with the German Embassy in Valletta. This was followed by a welcome address delivered by H.E. Ambassador Gudrun Maria Sräga. “The German-Maltese relations including the economic and commercial ties are very close. In 2015 this has been shown again by the increased high level of bilateral trade and the large number of German holiday makers and cruise liner tourists”, Ambassador Sräga explained.
Subsequently Mr Lino Mintoff, Head of Projects and Internationalization at the Malta Chamber of Commerce, Enterprise and Industry, presented the European Enterprise Network (EEN). The mission of the EEN is to help small and medium sized companies to find business and co-operation partners in Europe.
The keynote speaker of the event was Mr Tim Kriegeskorte of IBG Malta. This company forms part of the IBG Goeke Technology Group which has its headquarters in Neuenrade, Germany. IBG develops technology which enables the automation of production processes tailored to their costumers’ needs. The enterprise is represented in three continents and has overall more than 250 employees. Mr Kriegeskorte explained that the technologies are used in different sectors such as the automotive and chemical industry and the aerospace sector. He pointed out the importance of the collaboration with numerous technical universities and that continuous innovation is the key to persist in the global market and to remain competitive.
At the end, Ambassador Sräga expressed her wish, “that the event contributes to strengthening the business relations for the reciprocal benefit of Maltese and German companies.”
