Trio Sweet Birds at International Bir Miftuh Festival, Malta

A very special music presentation was given to the visitors of the third and last concert of this year’s edition of the International Bir Miftuh Music Festival in Malta: The German Trio Sweet Birds performed a well-balanced mixture of purely classical and lighter pieces which were chronologically chosen from Bach and Händel to Ernst von Dohnanyi. The Trio is composed of the Soprano Katharina Ruckgaber, the Flutist Tatjana Ruhland and the Concert Organist Christian Schmitt. All three are renowned musicians who have made a name for themselves with various orchestras in Germany and beyond. Christian Schmitt, a well-known organist has already performed at the Malta International Organ Festival in 2016 in Malta. He has appeared on a regular basis with the Berliner Symphoniker, and had an excellent performance at the new Elbphilharmonie (Hamburg’s new concert house) with the star conductor Kent Nagano.

The three musicians have sucessfully performed as a trio since 2013. Their music underlined the special atmosphere and characteristics of the old chapel of Santa Marija ta Bir Miftuh. The audience was enthusiastic.

Organized by the foundation Din l’Art Helwa, the festival is already in its 21st edition. The concert was being made possible thanks to the generous support of the German-Maltese Circle and the Goethe Institute with the participation of the German Embassy in Malta.
